Tips on Finding the Best Hair Restoration Clinic

Australia, (Melbourne) -- (LEIMO.COM) -- {05/31/2013} -- Once upon a time, baldness was something that you would be forced to live with as a man or forced to cover up with a wig were you a woman.

Hair Loss Clinic
Men who were tired of bearing their receding hairlines started to wear toupees, some of which were very obvious, causing them to be the butt of many jokes. Today, however, this is no longer the case.

One of the best procedures available for individuals suffering from hair loss is the hair restoration surgery. However, finding the best restoration procedure is sometimes a difficult endeavor. What is most challenging is finding the best hair clinic and surgeons who will perform the procedure.  The following are three suggestions to consider once you begin your search:

Cutting costs might mean sacrificing quality. Trying to cut costs where any hair restoration procedure is concerned might mean that you will be frugal on quality and then being unhappy with the outcome.  The cheapest is not necessarily the best and you don’t need to go with the most expensive in order to be assured of quality results.  What you need to do is to be aware of how the clinic accrues the charges for the procedure as well as if there are any hidden fees to deal with.

Transplant Tourism can be a better option. Transplant tourism involves traveling to another country in order to save money on your restoration procedure while at the same time having the highest quality outcome, eventually resulting in you having a full head of hair again.  Over the past decade or two, this concept of restoring hair in such a manner has grown in popularity and numerous countries around the world have jumped on the bandwagon. Besides that, it’s a great opportunity for seeing another country other than your own.

Pay attention to client testimonials. It would be best to start investigating several hair restoration clinics. In addition to interviewing the different surgeons, you need to pay attention to other aspects of that clinic such as client testimonials. You need to look through the different clinic websites in order to find these testimonials and ask around for people who have been clients in the clinic of your choice.  Just a word of caution, most of them are going to be positive as no clinic wants any negative publicity. If you want, you can try being a member of forums and participate in their online community so that you can find out which of these clinics have positive feedbacks and which of these have negative feedbacks among clients.

As a final suggestion, start with a list of about 6 hair restoration clinics and then cut it in half.  Once you have cut your list to those final three, consider thoroughly reviewing each one of them again before you make your final decision.  Remember that it is always a good idea to consult with your family physician first to get their advice in the matter.  You may not need this type of procedure yet and your physician is the one who should make that call.

Hair Loss Condition: Traction Alopecia at a Glance

From hippy plaits, preppy ponytails, classic braids, chic buns, to punk rock Mohawk, there’s no question that hairstyles—like elaborate dresses, trendy shoes and elegant bags—are part of fashion and beauty.  True enough, hairstyle fashion is one aspect of personal grooming that people take into great consideration.

Traction Alopecia
Millions of people especially women, young or old, are known for changing hairstyles without even knowing that some of these styles may cause hair loss.

Known as traction alopecia, this type of hair loss occurs as a result of repeated pulling of the hair. The pulling forces applied on the hair during harsh brushing or tight hairstyling are the causes of traction alopecia. Traction alopecia or scarring alopecia is more common among children, teens and young adults.  It usually affects the areas around the edge of the hairline making the hair loss noticeable around the face and the forehead. This is also characterized by red bumps, infections, papules and pustules.

Besides tight hairstyles, another cause of traction alopecia is over-using of hair products with certain chemicals (dyes, bleaches, and strengtheners) and thermal treatments (hair irons, curlers, and blow dryers). The chemicals present in these products are harsh for the hair making them brittle, fragile and weak while the heat from heating hair tools may be harmful to the hair shafts causing them to break out easily.

Moreover, people who attach hairpieces on their hair and don’t bother to remove them for long periods of time may also suffer with this type of hair loss. Traction alopecia occurs gradually and in most cases it’s reversible. However, severe forms of traction alopecia may cause permanent hair loss.

Traction alopecia can be stopped if it is diagnosed at an early stage. People who are suffering from this condition should take immediate action and consult a doctor as soon as possible to prevent its progression. Aside from that, tight hairstyles that put extra pressure on the roots of the hair causing them to break out should be avoided at all cost. Hair loss sufferers should also switch to loose and gentle hairstyles that are not harsh on the hair follicles.

These are simple hair care tips, which only require a little effort on your side to prevent experiencing traction alopecia. Some traction alopecia patients expect quick results once they have stopped doing tight hairstyles. This would not be the case since it takes several months or years for the hair to recover from this severe hair loss condition.

The best way to treat hair loss related to traction alopecia is with the help of a strict hair care regimen and avoiding hairstyles that are too tight. Once the causes and factors that contribute to this type of hair loss are remedied, you will eventually see that your hair is going back to its natural hair growth cycle.

Approach and Management of Hair Loss in Women

Telogen effluvium (TE) is the most common cause of diffuse hair loss in women. TE, along with female pattern Hair Loss (FPHL) and chronic telogen effluvium (CTE), accounts for the majority of diffuse alopecia cases.
Hair Loss in Women

Sudden, rapid, generalized shedding of normal club hairs a few months after a stressful event like parturition, major surgery, high fever, etc. indicates TE, while gradual diffuse hair loss with thinning of central scalp or widening of central parting line or frontotemporal recession are common indicators of FPHL.

Excessive, alarming diffuse shedding coming from a normal looking head with plenty of hairs and without an obvious cause is the hallmark of CTE, which is a distinct entity different from TE and FPHL. Complete blood count, routine urine examination, and levels of serum ferritin and T3, T4, and TSH should be assessed in all cases of diffuse hair loss without an apparent cause, as iron deficiency and thyroid hormone disorders are the two common conditions often linked with diffuse hair loss, and usually no apparent clinical features rule them in.

CTE can be reliably differentiated from FPHL through biopsy which shows a normal histology in CTE and miniaturization with significant reduction of terminal to vellus hair ratio in FPHL.

Reassurance, support, and explanation that the condition manifests excessive shedding and not the actual loss of hairs, and it does not lead to baldness, are the guiding principles toward management of TE as well as CTE.

TE is self limited and resolves in 3-6 months if the trigger is removed or treated, while the prognosis of CTE is less certain and may take 3-10 years for spontaneous resolution. Topical minoxidil 2% with or without antiandrogens, finestride, hair prosthesis, hair cosmetics, and hair surgery are the therapeutically available options for FPHL management.

Key Elements of an Effective Hair Growth Product

Good hair growth products form the heart of any hair loss treatment. These days, markets are flooded with numerous hair growth products like shampoos, conditioners, serums and therapies. However, there authenticity and effectiveness convey a huge question mark.

Hair Growth Product
That said, it is very difficult to determine which among these products are effective as treatments for hair loss. Hence, it is essential to consider certain elements and key features in order to find the right hair loss treatment that is suitable for you.  Read these guidelines to   help you chose the right Hair Loss Treatment product. In choosing a hair loss product, you need to take note of its ingredients. Try and choose a thinning hair product that is certified and tested by hair experts. An ideal hair growth shampoo must be non toxic and must not have any side effects. Always make sure that your choice of a hair loss formula is FDA approved.

You also need to consider the important elements such as copper peptides, carnitine tartrate, amino acids, emu oil as well as the vitamin biotin. Copper peptides has the ability to thicken any thin hair, increase hair follicle size as well as increase cell growth on the scalp when used in the right concentrations. Emu oil is perfect for getting blood and nutrients directly to your follicle roots so that they can produce newer hairs. These are some ingredients to look out for when choosing a shampoo that will help regrow your hair.

In addition, you should also pick a hair loss product which has a blend of a natural herbal ingredient. The natural hair loss product aims to provide a natural cure for hair loss. Unlike the synthetic products the natural hair loss product does not advocate the use of strong and harmful chemicals but is constituted of natural ingredients which are soft on the scalp and nourish it in a very gentle manner. Natural hair loss products are developed using natural herbs and are clinically tested to ensure their suitability of use by humans.

You also need to consider the application methodology of the hair growth product.  For instance, the mode of applying a hair loss shampoo also determines its feasibility for hair. An ideal hair thinning shampoo would always have a different application methodology for different types of hair. This may include normal hair, dry hair, oily hair and more.

Furthermore, when looking for the best hair loss shampoo for hair loss it is important to ensure you choose a product which does not contain SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate). SLS is a harsh and generally toxic chemical used in nearly 95% of high street shampoos and is used as a cheap foaming agent. Studies have shown that SLS can leave skin rough and pitted, and can strip the hair of essential oils, leaving hair weak and brittle. Those who are suffering from thinning or receding hair are generally advised to avoid this ingredient, as it may contribute to or worsen the condition.

Remember, before you choose any hair loss treatment you need professional medical advice. Do not make assumptions that all the hair loss treatments work.

Drug-Based Hair Balding Treatments Weighing the Pros and Cons

Drug-Based Hair Balding Treatments
Who doesn’t want to win the fight against hair loss? While some people have embraced baldness for the rest of their lives,  most sufferers are in dire straits searching for the best hair balding treatments for them, if not for that one cure. Hair loss is not a shallow case of vanity, not even for a man. Especially for young sufferers, hair loss is a daily nightmare. Their horror stories are proofs that hair loss is something one can never understand until and unless one experiences it.

Sufferers can only hope for a cure. For the time being, they will only have to depend on some treatments available nowadays. This is an added distress as it is difficult to sort out which works, which doesn’t.

Minoxidil

For both men and women, there is Minoxidil 5% and 2% respectively. Minoxidil is a strong topical solution causing vasodilatory effects, that in turn, stimulate miniaturized hair follicles to produce hair again. This drug is just two drug-based hair balding treatments approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Pros and Cons of Propecia as a Hair Loss Treatment

Talk to you doctor to find out if Propecia might help slow or reverse your hair loss. When deciding whether to take Propecia, it is important to weight the pros and cons of this hair loss treatment for your individual situation.

Propecia

Simplicity. There is no fuss involved with using Propecia. The medication comes in the form of a tablet that you take once a day.

Effectiveness. In men taking Propecia daily, DHT levels are reduced by as much as 60 percent. Most men who take Propecia (86 percent) experience a slowing of hair loss, and almost two-thirds see a substantial regrowth of hair.

The potential drawbacks of using Propecia:

Side effects. Adverse effects in men taking Propecia are rare, but they sometimes occur. Decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and decreased ejaculate volume are among the potential side effects of Propecia. However, keep in mind that each of these side effects occurs in less than 2 percent of men taking Propecia.

PSA level changes. Men taking Propecia may have decreased levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA), which is measured as part of prostate cancer screening. Make sure that your doctor knows that you are taking Propecia, so he can carefully evaluate your PSA levels.

Cost. The cost of Propecia varies, depending on the pharmacy you use. In general, the average retail price of Propecia is about $220 for a 90-day supply, but shop around to find the best deal. You may also want to enroll in the Propecia Persistence Program to receive special discounts from the manufacturer.
