Wrinkle Removal Options
Faces are the one thing that can't be protected from gravity and age. Faces reflect sun damage, wrinkles and other blemishes more often than not. Anti-wrinkle solutions can improve or even reverse signs of aging.

Patients looking for non-surgical rejuvenation options should look into wrinkle fillers. These injectable substances are inserted into the first few layers of skin to plump wrinkles and fine lines to make them disappear. A laser peel can also produce the same wrinkle reducing effect.

There is virtually no recovery time necessary for non-surgical anti-wrinkle treatments. Patients should consult with a plastic surgeon to choose which anti-aging options is right for them.

Wrinkle Reducer and Filler Options Include:

  • Chemical Peels: For skin that has a more even tone and fewer wrinkles, patients should look into chemical peels. Also referred to as Chemexfoliation or derma peeling, is one of the newest ways to boost a complexion. After a chemical solution is spread evenly across the face, skin blisters and peels off to reveal a smooth and fresh skin tone.

  • Laser Treatments: For patients who don't want to use chemicals or needles, a laser peel would be a great solution. Dermatologists implement the use of instruments such as the Fraxel laser to smooth and soften wrinkles and fade acne scars. The laser entirely resurfaces a patient's skin to make it look smoother than by using a skin care regimen alone.

  • Botox: The most popular anti-wrinkle option is Botox, also known as Botulinum Toxin A. Botox is most commonly used for small areas such as the brows, forehead and around the eyes. Hyperactive facial muscle movements cause wrinkles in these areas. To prevent wrinkles, Botox paralyzes the muscles for up to four months.

  • Collagen: Another way to plump up wrinkles and sagging facial areas is to inject them with collagen, which is naturally produced by the skin, but can also be derived from animal sources. Collagen injections are most often used to plump fine lines other fillers cannot. Although it is naturally found in the body, collagen treatments must have follow up shots to briefly restore skins elasticity. Collagen treatments are most often used as lip enhancement for full lips.

  • Hyaluronic Acid: Much like collagen, hyaluronic acid is also found in the skin, and used to fill out sagging features. However, unlike collagen, hyaluronic acid cannot be derived from animals and its effects last up to eight months. This gel is injected into facial features and inflates to support structures that have lost their elasticity or volume.

  • Hydroxyapatite: This mineral is an injectable gel but has a similar composition to material found in human bones. Hydroxyapatite is reserved for extremely deep scars, wrinkles and furrows that other fillers cannot fill out. This gel can be used in place of implants in the chin and cheeks and lasts up to one year.

  • Polylactic Acid: More commonly known as Sculptra, polylactic acid fills wrinkles and smooth deep lines by stimulating the body's production of collagen and encouraging the body to fill out the lines itself, slowly and naturally. Because this filler works with the body, instead of adding to it, results can last up to two years.

  • Fat transfer: Of course, patients can always opt to sculpt other parts of their body to benefit other areas. Fat transfers have a surgeon remove excess fat from a "problem area" on the body such as the hips, thighs or love handles, and purify the fat so it is only made up of whole fat cells. This clean fat is injected into flat or wrinkled areas to plump up saggy spots as the patient wishes. Extra fat can be frozen so patients can repeat the procedure without having to remove any more fat.
